About Matthew Wright the owner

In new residential homes many contractors use the lowest bid and the home owner usually get a low quality installation. This includes duct leaks and low air flow cause low efficancy from manufactures ratings.

"Studies done in North Carolina by Advanced Energy suggest that, on average, 15%-25% of what we spend for heating and cooling our homes is being lost through leaks in the ductwork. This is consistent with findings in several other states."  Advanced Energy http://www.advancedenergy.org/buildings/knowledge_library/construction_process/performance_testing_duct_work.html

"In many houses, heating/cooling costs can be cut 20 percent to 30 percent when leaks are eliminated. A 13 SEER system with 30 percent leakage works no better than a 10 SEER system with no leakage.  A system that has to work harder wears out faster, taking your investment with it."  Progress Energy http://www.progress-energy.com/custservice/carres/energytips/ducts.asp

"Field research conducted by LBNL has shown that the thermal distribution system—composed primarily of ducts—in California houses typically wastes 20–40% of the energy that goes through it. Previous versions of Title 24 implicitly assumed a much higher duct efficiency. The new version will better reflect the actual situation"  http://www.ucop.edu/ciee/Sherman1998/reschar.html#Standards
